Ever since I first discovered this product I single mindedly got myself stuck to it. I loved the form factor, the design, the hardwares, the features it provides. Below is my review after using it for nearly 1 month:
NOTE: I researched extensibly before buying this product for about nearly 6 months to find out the cons. The pros and cons that you’ll find here are the ones I experienced.
1. Build quality: Build quality is as good as it is marketed. It’s sturdy for daily use. The hinge is good enough to absorb daily stress and strains but it wobbles a bit, not at the alleged Victus level though.
2. Design: Beautifully designed product rest assured. One nit picking thing is if Asus could have extend the lid just a little bit in the middle where you would normally put your finger(s) to open it, it could have been easier to open it with one hand. Otherwise, no complaints. I specially liked the ergonomic lift up design to improve the airflow which also enhances the typing experience because of the angle it creates.
3. Performance: No complaints at all. It’s a beast for day to day tasks/multitasking. I was coming from a 6th gen Intel i3 dual core to this. It felt almost weird at first while launching heavy applications like Photoshop, Lightroom, Games side by side. I was not used to this speed!
With great performance comes great level of heat though. The liquid cooling, fans do the job alright but still if you push it, it gets really hot, in Performance/Turbo mode especially. So, better not sit it around in soft surfaces like Sofa, Bed while you’re gaming or running heavy tasks.
4. Display: I mainly use it indoors and the given display quality is top notch. I’m not pointing out all the technical features here as you’ll find that out in the product description anyway. I never set the brightness level above 50% and at 30% it suits my usage. This way I hope you’re getting some idea. Anti-glare helps a lot while in bright environment.
5. Sound: If you’re looking for loudness you’ll get disappointed but if you’re in quiet environment you’ll appreciate the quality output of the 4 speakers. Don’t expect the MacBook level, though.
6. Keyboard: Keyboard quality is good. It has a nice soft feel to it while typing on it. Please choose the black variant otherwise the white backlit on white/silver variant will spoil your experience in daylight as it does to my nephew who bought a different spec-ed silver variant. I don’t blame him though as it was the only color available at that time for that specification. The fingerprint scanner on power key works really well when it does.
7. Power Backup: Power backup is good not great. You have to understand it’s a high performance compact all purpose laptop so you’ll not get the Ultrabook level power backup here. On a moderate usage(without gaming) it’ll last like 4-5 hrs on avg on full 100% charge which is not bad.
Overall like I already mentioned it’s value for money laptop. If you’re looking for high productivity work and casual gaming then go for it when it’s on discounted sale.
Thank you.
